The Sano Art Museum has long contributed to the promotion of art and culture through distinctive exhibitions, the preservation and use of Ryusenen Garden—our Japanese garden created in the early Shōwa period—educational outreach programs, and the protection of cultural properties. To continue these important activities, we rely on the generous support of our visitors and friends. We sincerely appreciate your warm and thoughtful contributions.

Tax Benefits (Japan Only)

Tax Deductions for Donations from Individuals
Since July 26, 2022, the Sano Art Museum has been certified by Shizuoka Prefecture as a public interest foundation eligible for tax credits.
As a result, your donations are eligible for special tax treatment. Please see below for the procedures to receive these benefits.
Donations from individuals are considered "specified donations" and are eligible for a tax deduction.
There are two methods for claiming a deduction, and you can choose either one.

  • 1. Tax Credit Method (Zeigaku-kojo)

You can deduct 40% of the amount (total donations to public interest foundations minus 2,000 yen) from your income tax for that year.
The maximum donation amount is 40% of your total annual income. However, the deduction is limited to 25% of your total income tax.

  • 2. Income Deduction Method (Shotoku-kojo)

The amount (total specified donations minus 2,000 yen) is deducted from your annual income.
The total specified donations eligible for this deduction are capped at 40% of your total annual income.

Description Calculation Examples (Based on a 50,000 Yen Donation)
Tax Credit Method

This amount is deducted directly from your income tax. The benefit remains consistent regardless of your income level.

(50,000 yen - 2,000 yen) x 40% = 19,200 yen
Income deduction method

This amount is deducted from your taxable income. The higher your income, the greater the tax saving.

Total amount deducted from taxable income: 48,000 yen

If the local municipality designates the Sano Art Museum as a public interest organization, your donation may be eligible for a resident tax deduction.
"Donations designated by prefectural or municipal ordinances" are eligible for resident tax reduction (tax credit).
* Please note that this system is not uniform nationwide.
* Please check with your local municipality to confirm if your donation is eligible for a deduction.

  • Procedures to Receive Tax Benefits

Please file a final tax return at your local tax office.
    * Deductions cannot be processed through year-end tax adjustments.
    * Filing period: February 16 to March 15 every year.

Tax Benefits for Corporate Donors: Special Provisions for Donations to Public Interest Incorporated Foundations
When a corporation or organization (other than a public interest corporation) makes a donation to a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, the donation may qualify for special tax treatment. Even if the corporation has already reached the standard deductible limit for General Donations, an additional amount may be deducted under a separate Special Deduction Limit.
The deductible limits are calculated as follows:

  • General Donation Deduction Limit

    [(Capital x Months/12 x 0.0025) + (Income x 0.025)] x 1/4

  • Special Maximum Deductible Limit

    [(Capital x Months/12 x 0.00375) + (Income x 0.0625)] x 1/2

Important Notes

○ Donations cannot be returned for any reason once they have been made. Please confirm before donating.
○ A donation receipt will be sent to you after the payment is confirmed.
○ By applying for a donation, you are deemed to have agreed to the following donation criteria:
