The season for Hinamatsuri has come around again this year. We would like to introduce the various Hina dolls at the Sano Museum of Art.
The Kyoho dolls, with their striking cool eyes, slender fingertips and sleeves stretched out on both sides, are full of a charm that is completely different from other dolls.
The Kokin Hina dolls, said to have been made by the master Edo craftsman Hara Shugetsu, have a gorgeous appearance that seems as if it had come straight out of an ukiyo-e print, and it is said that the modern-day shape of Hina dolls originated from here.
The palace decorations, with their cypress bark roofs, are masterpieces from the Taisho period. The building, an intricate replica of the Imperial Palace, is a kind of "Japanese dollhouse" assembled from individual components.
The adorable Oboko Hina dolls with their childish expressions are one of the elaborately designed "variegated Hina dolls," and their bright, almost bursting with joy, will bring a smile to your face.
And the miniature Hina dolls, celebrated as a specialty of Edo Hatchobori. The beauty of the intricate lacquer work is a must-see.
Spend a spring day in elegance at the Sano Museum of Art's Hinamatsuri.
