Q. How long does the tour take?

The average time is 30 to 40 minutes.

Q. Can infants and small children enter the museum?

There is no age restriction. Preschool children are admitted free of charge.

Q. Can I bring pets into the facility?

In order to protect the artworks, we ask that you refrain from bringing pets into the museum.
Assistance dogs (guide dogs, service dogs, hearing dogs) are allowed in the museum.

Q.Does the store support cashless payment?

For admission fees and purchases at the museum shop, you can use credit cards, electronic money, smartphone payments, and QR code payments.

However, when an exhibition is crowded, we may restrict some payment methods. In addition, some classes and other events may only be paid in cash.

Q. Are there any discounts on admission fees for seniors?

There is no senior discount system.
On Respect for the Aged Day, admission is free for people aged 65 and over.

Q.Is there a place to eat my lunch?

There is no free eating and drinking area within the building.

About the Exhibition

Q. Can I view Japanese swords at any time?

It is not possible to view many Japanese swords at any one time.

Q. What can I see in the permanent exhibition room?

The museum exhibits three Buddhist statues and about five other items from its collection, with different themes exhibited about four times a year.

Q. Can I just visit the permanent exhibition room?

No. Please enjoy it along with the exhibition.

Q. Can I take photos inside the exhibition room?

In principle, photography is not permitted, but depending on the exhibition, you may be able to photograph some or all of the exhibits.

Q. Can I tour inside a Japanese house?

The house is not open to the public.
We sometimes hold events at the house (such as tea ceremonies and exhibition-related events), so please come and participate.

Q. What times are the gardens open?

You can stroll through the garden during museum opening hours (10:00-17:00, closed on Thursdays, during exhibition changeover periods, and over the New Year holidays).

Q. What are the garden viewing hours?

It takes about 10 minutes.

Q. Can I eat my lunch in the garden?

From an environmental conservation perspective, we ask that you refrain from doing so.

Q. What kind of plants can be seen?

Blooming season: Plum blossoms bloom around January, weeping cherry blossoms bloom around March

Autumn foliage season: November to December for Japanese wax trees, Japanese maples, and Enkianthus campanulatus

Q. Do you appraise Japanese swords and artworks?

There is no appraisal.

Q. Do you offer classes on Japanese swords?

A year-long basic course to learn about the way and spirit of Japanese swords will be held in April.

We recruit students for the course every year from January.

Q.Is there a volunteer program?

At the Sano Museum of Art, volunteers are actively involved in supporting the museum's activities in various ways.

Please contact us regarding volunteer applications and recruitment periods.

Q. Do you accept museum interns?

We accept trainees every year.

Students who wish to participate in the museum internship should mail (1)-(3) to the Museum Internship Officer at the NDL between April 1st and 30th of the year of their choice (the format does not matter).

(3) A letter of recommendation from a professor in charge of museology or a professor in a research lab

 

・Maximum capacity is 6 people.

If there are a large number of applicants, we may decline your application after screening your documents.

After screening the documents, the university will notify you of the acceptance or rejection of your application by the end of the May holidays.

Please apply for one person from each university.

・Students should preferably major in art, history, literature, etc.

・The internship period is 6 days during the summer vacation period (July to September).

・Please note that the event may be subject to change or cancellation due to various reasons.
