Japanese sword making is supported by the skills of many craftsmen, including polishers who beautifully sharpen the blade, scabbard makers who create scabbards to fit the swords, handle wrappers who finish the handles, and silversmiths who create the habaki (collar), which is essential for preserving the blade. This event is a valuable opportunity to see some of these techniques up close.
In addition to demonstrations of polishing, white scabbard making, handle wrapping, and silvering, there will also be a service where a swordsmith will engrave your desired words onto a plate (plates are subject to a fee, generally limited to 6 characters), and a consultation session on swords will be held simultaneously.
